Exploring an intimate sense of isolation while narrating the new Mas d'Enric Penitentiary.

Poetic and original reflection about the theme of prison design, this 20-minutes fiction - produced by 15-L. Films in collaboration with Roger Paez and directed by Jordi Bernardó - introduces the new Mas d'Enric Penitentiary, designed by AiB arquitectes and Estudi PSP Arquitectura and built in El Catllar (Catalonia, Spain).

The usual narratives of architecture communication are completely subverted, the spaces of the project being not the very center of the story. They are only glimpsed from an aerial view or foreseen from a distance. The short video mostly focuses on the concept which is at the basis of the design and explores the delicate, intimate sense of isolation which is connected to some of the most intense experiences in human life, such as sin and prison. "Out of here, the unknown world. Lions", the voice-over says. Then the words of the traditional African American spiritual song "Sinner man" flow in the narration to the sound of Nina Simone's interpretation.

The film was produced for the book "PRESO I PROJECTE | CRITICAL PRISON DESIGN", published in April 2014 by Actar and authored by architect Roger Paez (principal at AiB arquitectes).
