Can a domestic fitness machine be related with our political actions?

The research developed by Elii arquitectos often focuses on domesticity, sometimes blurring the boundary between reality and fiction, seriousness and irony. This is true, for example, for the JF Kit House, an installation conceived in 2012 for the Centre International pour la Ville, l'Architecture et le Paysage in Bruxelles and filmed by Miguel de Guzmán.

Elii arquitectos here bring together two major stereotypes expressed by contemporary culture: obsession for fitness and sustainability at all costs. The JF Kit House is a strange device with a series of domestic fitness machines that allow its inhabitants to produce their share of energy for their daily power needs.

At the urban scale, the JF Kit House is an additive and self-sufficient prototype which does not modify the existing urban condition. At the architectural scale, the house is designed as an active energy production unit. At the economic scale, it offers an alternative model to the major networks. And above all it demonstrates that body could be a tool for political and social action. As Fernando Domínguez Rubio writes introducing the Elii's project: "The house brings the metaphor of the body politik to its literal extreme by showing how the achievement of sustainable futures will require the production of new bodies: bodies that can be productively mobilized within the domestic space as active agents in the process of energy production".

Can a domestic fitness machine be related with our political actions? According to Elii, we could say yes.
