The Slide. Halle Neustadt, Germany

Kyong Park

A transparent tube for people to slide through in an empty high-rise building in Halle Neustadt.

Kyong Park combines the reality of the urban investigation and the fiction of an empty architecture transformed in a collective entertainment space - the Slide - to reflect on the possible strategies for the numerous abandoned buildings in East Germany.

The author's provocative, ironic proposal to build a continuous, transparent tube to reevaluate a deserted building is presented through a render animation and imaginary interviews to local inhabitants. Fictional visitors tell how they can finally slide - inside and outside - through the eighteen floors of the hi-rise, long time abandoned building in Halle Neustadt (German bedroom community built between 1964 and 1990) on a specially-designed sled.
