Future North. Ecotariums in the North Pole

Terreform ONE

Do expect amazing migrations and crazy urban contaminations.

"Future North. Ecotariums in the North Pole" might affect the collective perception of the future. In a fictional observation of Earth from space, this provocative animation projects the extreme consequences of climate change on the global urbanization within the next hundred years.

In the video installation - made for the "Badlands: New Horizons in Landscape" exhibition (2008) at MASS MoCA (North Adams, US) - Terreform ONE group has virtually "moved entire cities" in order to visualize the massive impact of such a global environmental shift.

Uninhabited areas within the Arctic regions will probably warm up significantly and become newly desirable destinations. Through a crossbreeding process, a new urban entity seems to grow from its fragments in a formerly inhospitable place. This short film disclosed to a shocked audience a scenario of hundreds of millions of people having to move North to escape rising extremes in temperature and other natural catastrophes.
