Concerto for Infrastructures

MUOTO Architectes

Listening to the sound of infrastructural landscape.

In this work Muoto Architects use their profound knowledge and experience in the field of infrastructures and combine it with their interest in design and art installation.

At its premiere (September 2008, Wittenberg, Germany) the video was showcased as a series of eleven loops displayed on separate screens, played simultaneously and with a similar rhythm; all of which overall make the piece appear as a virtual concert. The video is the outcome of the collaboration between the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau and Muoto Architects as they reflected on the theme "Urbanity and Infrastructures" (2008).

"Concerto for Infrastructures" examples how, by transforming the perception we have of peripheral spaces, the architecture is in the end improved. It comes out a new vision, a different way of perceiving the industrial and infrastructural landscape of the Saxony-Anhalt region in Eastern Germany. An aseptic and abandoned industrial landscape is transformed into a soundscape. The ground appears flooded because of a mirror effect which contributes to this relaxing, hypnotic new vision.
