About

Joe Gilbert is a documentary film maker whose production is characterized by the subversion of the common viewpoint. His documentaries are mostly focused on sociological investigations of various themes, from the interactions between new technological devices and contemporary languages to the stratified relationships between architectural spaces and people. Among his works, his silent short film “Pose” investigates the process of how tourists pose for photographs. His documentary “1000FT” - that was filmed over a period of 3 months - depicts a day in the life of Western Europe’s tallest building, the Shard. Another of Gilbert’s documentaries, “ENGLISH 3.0” (featured in the Sheffield Doc/Fest 2014, in the Final Image Film Festival 2015 in Atlanta and broadcasted on British television in February 2015), documents how the internet has influenced the contemporary language in everyday communications. In the short documentary “Barbican | Urban poetry” (SE10 Film Festival Official Selection 2015), the history of the Barbican Estate in the City of London is narrated from the perspective of its residents. Based in London, the video maker graduated from the University for the Creative Arts in 2013 with a BA (Hons) in Film Production.
