About

Carlo Cappai e Maria Alessandra Segantini are partners and directors of C+S based in Treviso, Italy and London, UK. C+S work internationally, in urban design and the design of the landscape, architectural design and interior design, both for the private and the public sectors. They have won many international competitions including the re-developement of Chiasso railway station area in Switzerland, a housing complex in Japan, the law court offices of Venice, the Policlinic Hospital in Milan and many projects for school buildings. Their holistic approach at all the scales of design is achieved by a constant dialogue, which translates into form the desires of clients, consultants, contractors and users together with the landscape and its ecological demands. They name their design approach TranslationArchitectureTM. They have lectured internationally at the MoMA, in many universities worlwide such as Columbia University GSAPP, the MIT in Boston, the Politecnico of Milan, the TU Delft, the EPFL, UEL, Cambridge and Bath Universities in the UK, among others. They have been visiting professors at the MIT in Boston, at Syracuse University, School of Architecture, New York, at Hasselt University and at the Universities of Architecture of Alghero, Ferrara and Venice and the UEL, School of Architecture. Their work has been awarded with the Agibile e Bella Award of the Italian Ministry of Culture 2014, the Special Prize of the Gold Medal of Italian Architecture 2012, the In Opera Award 2012, the Selection in the European Mies van der Rohe Award 2009 and the Sfide 2009 Prize of the Italian Ministry of Landscape and Environment, the FarbDesignPreis 2009, Honourable Mention; the AR+D Award 2008, Honourable Mention; the Gold Medal of Italian Architecture for Education in 2006; and the 1° Premio di Architettura Città di Oderzo 2004. C+S works have been published internationally and exhibited in the 8th, 12th and 13th and 14th Biennale of Architecture of Venice, at the MIT in Boston, at the Triennale of Milan, at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris, the Architekturzentrum in Wien and the RIBA in London, among others.
